WOODBRIDGE — Mayor John McCormac is looking to lighten the township’s load, and he’s starting with himself.
McCormac, dressed in a Rutgers football T-shirt and Woodbridge shorts, worked out on a stationary bicycle at the Woodbridge Community Center and YMCA Friday as part of the kickoff for the Woodbridge Drops-A-Ton weight loss challenge, in which residents are being encouraged to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle. He was joined by Councilman Gregg Ficarra.
McCormac plans to set the example for the township-wide wellness campaign by working to lose about 25 pounds by Halloween. To help reach that goal, he plans to give up chocolate and not eat between meals.
“It’s like Lent in the summer,” said McCormac, who admits he won’t be able to give up his favorite meal of turkey and cranberry sauce, a dish he enjoys about twice a week. “I don’t like vegetables, but I’ll have to start. I do like fruit, berries and grapes.”
