Youth in Motion: Committed to Kids / Trim Kids™
Age Range 6 to 18
Committed to Kids / Trim Kids™ is an outpatient clinical behavior management intervention focused on preventing and treating overweight and obese youth. The program was developed through research in childhood obesity conducted by the Pediatric Weight-Management Program at Louisiana State University. A modified 12-week curricula has been proven effective in a variety of settings including schools and after-school programs.
The principal goal of Committed to Kids / Trim Kids™ is to help overweight and obese children achieve a healthier weight (decreased BMI) through the following objectives:
- Increase activity levels (aerobic, strength and flexibility)
- Encourage family involvement in making healthier snack and meal choices
- Foster self-esteem
The program exists in multiple formats:
- A workbook Trim Kids™: The Proven 10-Week Plan That Has Helped Thousands of Children Achieve a Healthier Weight, designed to assist families guide their overweight children to better health
- Trim Kids™ Fitness Fun Zone, a DVD with three workouts geared towards different ability levels
- Committed to Kids, a program for physicians interested in providing a comprehensive out-patient program for overweight children and their families
- Trim Kids™ National Program designed for implementation by community health care providers, after-school programs and other community groups
