MADISON – The Rose City Steppers will walk at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, meeting in the parking lot at Summerhill Park, located between Central and Ridgedale Avenues, south of the intersections for Fairview Avenue.
The Steppers will follow the route of Walk No. 11 in the “Madison Walks” book. The route follows the wooded path down the hill leading to DeHart Place and then over to Rosedale Avenue to pick up the woodchip path at Memorial Park. Organizers called it a great walk for those unfamiliar with Madison’s “in town” parks.
All residents of Madison, Chatham Borough, Chatham Township and Morris Plains are invited to join the Steppers’ events. Walkers are advised to wear comfortable clothes and appropriate footwear, and bring a water bottle. Membership in the Steppers is not required to participate in any of the monthly walks.
Walkers are invited to become members of the Steppers at any walk for a donation of $12 for adults and $10 for seniors citizens. Members of the Rose City Steppers have the advantage of online health messages, reminders of upcoming walks and activities, and a package that includes bright yellow Rose City Steppers reflective safety vests, a “Madison Walks” book of local walk routes, and a water bottle waist pack.
“Madison Walks” books are also available for purchase at $5 at the walks, and at the Madison Health Department, 28 Walnut St. “Madison Walks” is a compilation of 20 walk maps, fitness information and encouragement to exercise, produced in partnership with the Madison Mayors Wellness Campaign.
Offices Move
Those who plan to visit the health department are asked to note that during the installation of an elevator at 28 Walnut St., the department will move to the front downstairs section of the building, adjacent to the driveway on the right. Access is through the single red door on the right side of the building, and down the stairs to the department’s temporary offices.
“Exercise is a proven way to increase energy, look younger, lower risk of disease, manage weight and just feel better,” invited Madison Health Educator Christine Shesler.
