Chatham mayors challenge residents to get fit

July 27, 2010

CHATHAM-TWP. – The mayors of Chatham Borough and Chatham Township have joined together to promote resident’s health in the Mayor’s Healthy Lifestyle Challenge. The project is part of the New Jersey Mayors Wellness campaign that follows the success of the Toxic Waistline challenge from last year.

Borough Mayor Nelson Vaughan started the ball rolling in conjunction with the Farmer’s Market on July 10 but there is still time for all residents to join in. “The goal of this challenge is to have our citizens to ‘Know Your Numbers’ and reduce critical health indicators including resting heart rate, BMI, blood pressure, waist circumference and cholesterol,” he said.

The mayor’s Wellness Committee, chaired by Chatham internist Dr. Tobi Ippolito, MD, has worked diligently to pull this challenge together. “As a committee, we felt our challenge was to extend beyond weight loss and truly target those health indicators that dramatically impact a person’s health,” he said. “We want our community exercising more, eating properly and living healthier more active lifestyles.”
