CRANFORD — The Cranford Chamber of Commerce announced a new fitness endeavor called The Cranford Challenge.

This year-long fitness program has been developed to support the Mayors Wellness Campaign as it includes activities designed to improve the public’s health and well being.

The Cranford Challenge program has been tailored specifically for families, seniors, businesses and communities to have fun while learning lifelong healthy habits that include both exercise and nutrition.

Participants will have the opportunity to make real improvements in their health and fitness levels and learn how to maintain these lifestyle changes once the program is complete.

The kickoff event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Cranford Community Center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents will have the opportunity to hear a series of guest speakers on topics such as: Nutrition, exercise and motivation.

There also will be exhibits that showcase local resources for residents to improve their health.

“Fifty-five percent of New Jersey residents are overweight and this will cause lasting effects to the health of our community,” said Marc Kanterman, of The Cranford Challenge. “But, studies by the CDC are showing that communities can help to change this alarming trend. Our goal with The Cranford Challenge is to bring the community together to accomplish a healthier future and way of life.”
