WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Individuals and community teams including health departments, health educators, planners, school educators, decision makers (i.e. Mayor, City Council), advocates, and others interested in healthy communities.
SPONSORS: NJ Council on Physical Fitness and Sports (NJCPFS) in collaboration with the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services (NJDHSS)
WHY: Established in 2006, the Leaders’ Academy for Healthy Community Development invites community teams and individuals to attend this training opportunity that will focus on policy & environmental change so healthy choices are easier for New Jersey residents.
Following the Academy, mini grants of $2500.00 – $10,000 will be offered through a competitive state grant process to implement a healthy community initiative. In year 1 (2006) 150 people attended and 20 mini grants of $2000 were given to 20 deserving communities. In year 2 (2007) 125 people attended and 22 mini grants totaling $100,000 were awarded. This event is now held every other year.
Teams do not need to attend to apply; however, those that do attend will receive first consideration.
